Meno a Kwena is quite possibly Botswana’s best-kept secret. Hidden halfway between the Okavango Delta and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the camp sits perched on a 100-foot cliff overlooking the Boteti River and the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. The camp’s easy-to-reach location (just ninety minutes by road from Maun), unique wildlife watching opportunities, and diverse roster of activities make it the perfect complement to any Botswana safari. While Meno a Kwena offers a complete desert game viewing experience, some of the best wildlife action happens right in front of camp. As the only source of permanent water in the area, the Boteti River is popular with resident game and migrating herds alike. Surprisingly large groups of elephants congregate here year round. During the dry season (May to November), guests are dazzled by Africa’s second largest zebra migration as it makes its way through. The area is also home to many desert antelope species found nowhere else in northern Botswana, as well as white rhino, hippo, giraffe, lion, leopard, hyena, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, and more.
One of Botswana’s original safari camps, Meno a Kwena is steeped in history. Used by legendary hunters and explorers once upon a time, this owner-run camp has been completely refurbished and boasts nine brand new tents with all of the modern comforts and amenities, including en suite facilities and private verandahs overlooking the river. Activities at Meno a Kwena include day trips into Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans National Parks, San Bushmen guided walking excursions, a floating hide, sunset and game viewing cruise on the river, and sleep outs on the pans during the dry winter months
