Hyena Pan, Khwai Private Reserve, Botswana

Hyena Pan is a tranquil and comfortable tented camp located in the sprawling Khwai Private Reserve. The reserve borders some of Botswana’s finest game viewing areas, with Moremi National Park to the south and Chobe National Park to the east. Until recently, this wild and vast area of more than 200,000 hectares was a hunting concession and remained largely unexplored by outsiders. Hunting was banned in Botswana’s protected areas in 2013 and we at Natural Selection are thrilled to have the opportunity to support the conservation of this remarkable corner of Botswana through the development of photographic safaris in partnership with local families. Khwai offers guests an unbeatable combination of exclusivity, room to roam, and world-class wildlife encounters.

Hyena Pan sits within a cathedral of mopane trees overlooking a natural pan, which provides a steady source of water for the area’s abundant wildlife, including hippo, elephant, and buffalo. Other activities include optional night drives and game walks. Or you can choose to just hang out in our hide and watch elephants or relax in the rim-flow splash pool and enjoy a refreshing cocktail. Guests are accommodated in eight simple but comfortable tents with en suite facilities.
