Little Makalolo lies in the heart of one of the best game viewing areas in Hwange National Park. Overlooking a vibrant waterhole, it offers privacy for guests who enjoy small camps and a sense of remoteness. The camp's six traditional-style tents – including a family unit – are spacious and en-suite, with indoor and outdoor showers. Solar power is used for tent lights and to heat water, ensuring a lighter environmental footprint.
Linking the tents to the main area are teak walkways. Here a false mopane tree in the centre of the camp shades a separate dining and living area, with an open fire deck for those convivial evening fireside tales under the stars. The plunge pool is a fantastic addition especially for those hot summer days. The log-pile hide at the waterhole in front of camp offers thrilling game viewing to literally a Noah's Ark parade of animals as they come down to quench their thirst.

The private Wilderness Safaris concessions are situated in the most productive area of Hwange National Park. The varied habitats and vegetation types as well as countless waterholes mean that game drives are exciting with always something new to be seen.
Hwange was proclaimed some 80 years ago and has served as a haven for one of the densest concentrations of game in Africa. There is no better way to experience this park than on foot with an experienced, qualified walking safari guide.
This hide is beautifully placed at the camp’s productive waterhole and is the perfect place to spend your afternoon siesta hours. Elephants are often the star attraction at the hide; just watch out for the sprays of water propelled from their nearby trunks.
The Hwange ‘night act’ includes species such as lesser bushbaby, spotted hyaena, leopard, lion, Selous mongoose, pangolin, caracal, porcupine, scrub hare, springhare and even honey badger.
Situated on a raised platform overlooking Madison Pan, the Star Bed is just a 20-minute drive away from camp and offers a truly secluded, remote wilderness experience – and the opportunity of sleeping under the stars.
An authentic village experience takes place in a manner that is respectful to all parties. Usually around four hours and lead by one of the local villagers or a Wilderness guide, it often includes a tour of the school, meeting the headman or headwoman and enjoying cultural exchanges with the villagers.
Hwange’s mix of different veld and landscape types means that game viewing is productive year-round. Wildlife frequently encountered in our area includes lion, large herds of elephant, buffalo, cheetah, leopard, spotted hyaena, giraffe, sable, blue wildebeest, impala, waterbuck and reedbuck. In summer, wildebeest, zebra and eland are found in abundance on the open plains, while in winter elephant congregate in enormous numbers around the waterholes.
Birdlife in the area is prolific (400+) and varied.
