Entamanu Ngorongoro, Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

Surrounded by volcanic peaks, in a grove of Acacia Lahai trees draped in feathery moss, the camp look towards the sunrise over the Ngorongoro Crater while the sun sets at our backs over the Serengeti Plains. Nowhere else can you enjoy both spectacles from the same place.

There’s nothing tame about this location – the high altitude sun has some real heat and the wind can be biting and sometimes noisy. It's taken up the challenge to create a camp that makes the most of the extraordinary view while providing warmth and shelter from the elements, while being entirely removable

The camp is designed to be removable; stunning canvas rooms sit raised on platforms that can be dismantled and taken away. Interiors are of sustainably sourced wood and everything within the camp is locally sourced and made by talented Tanzanian artisans. Fires burn in the hearths of the cosy tented lounge and dining room in the evenings, and textured wool, down duvets and heaters provide warmth in the sleeping tents against the chilly nights.

Visits to Ngorongoro Crater

The crater is still a lambent lost world of wildlife, giving us flashes of how the first humans must have experienced it; watching as the sun rises over the perfect bowl of the Crater and then sets again over the immense plains of the Southern Serengeti.

And by day there is the breathtaking wildlife of the Crater floor - one of Africa's most remarkable safari experiences all in the shadow of the 3000 ft high Crater walls.

And then there’s the rest of it…Empakai, Olmoti, OlDonyo Lengai: legendary names and places for us to explore, almost completely ignored due to the rock stardom of their famous cousin, and unfairly so.
