Sasaab Lodge Samburu, Kenya

Perched high on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, this Moroccan-inspired lodge is an oasis in the heart of Kenya’s Northern Frontier. It is here that you can uncover the secrets of the Samburu tribe. The Samburu take pride in their distinctive appearance, adorning themselves lavishly with brightly coloured beads, feathers and copper. Visit their markets, or unique ‘manyatta’ settlements, as they proudly share in their culture.

Sasaab is located in the Westgate Community Conservancy, west of the Samburu National Reserve in Kenya’s Northern Frontier District.

Community

One of the highlights at Sasaab. Visit the Ngutuk Ongiron Primary School and Clinic at a small Samburu settlement or visit one of the local markets on market day to get caught up in the hustle and bustle.

Cultural Interaction

Visit one of the neighbouring villages to gain an insight into the culture of the Samburu people and how they survive in this harsh environment. A humbling and inspiring experience.

Chic, open plan canvas rooms, a stunning blend of Moroccan and Swahili style and each with their own private plunge pool. Honeymoon heaven and used frequently as a 'beach in the bush' experience.

A fully functioning gym complete with free weights, elliptical exercise bike, and TRX are available for the guests whilst the numerous activities can also keep the guest's fitness levels up.

Guests can enjoy camel rides at any time with the 5 resident camels, adventure seekers can try their hand at a quad bike.

Experience the unspoilt Samburu culture by visiting a local village and going to a local market, walk to ‘Sundowner Rock’ to enjoy vast 360° views of Kenya, or enjoy a massage in Spasaab overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River. Walk with camels or go fly-camping! Spend a night, or two in the further reaches of the conservancy, with dinner served under the stars and the night spent inside mosquito tents, giving a clear view of the stars above.
