Loldia House, Great Rift Valley, Kenya

Loldia House offers a choice of accommodation either in the old family house or in cottages in the grounds. In the main house, there is one en-suite double room, furnished in the original settler style. Close by is an original guest cottage surrounded by lush flowers, with a further two en-suite rooms. Then there are a further two separate cottages each with two en-suite rooms – both have wonderful views of the gardens and the lake. Up on the hill is the specially built ‘Top Cottage’, which has its own sitting room with open log fire and panoramic views across the lake and two double rooms (both en-suite). The Top Cottage also has a loft room (with separate bathroom). The Top Cottage is only ideal for close friends or family groups traveling together. There is also a newly built infinity pool, set on an outcrop between two age old fig trees with stunning views across the lake.

There are also beautiful views of the dormant volcano, Mount Longonot. Wild animals roam free on the farm and in the evenings hippo munch quietly by the waterside. Loldia House is only a two hour drive from Nairobi and within easy reach of Nairobi’s International Airport. It is a perfect place from which to begin your safari holiday around Kenya. It is also conveniently located for day trips to the famous Lake Nakuru National Park. There are now also daily flights on Governors Aviation direct from Loldia House to the Masai Mara.

Hells Gate National Park

We can arrange day trips and guided walks through Hells Gate National Park for guests staying with us at Loldia House.

Hell’s Gate National Park is known for its interesting geology and the steam geysers that are found in some areas. The cliffs in the park provide ideal nesting and vantage points for many birds of prey. It is possible to hike down the gorge to the hot springs and one of our resident naturalists will be happy to accompany you on the walk. The park fee is payable direct and our manager will be happy to advise you of the current rates.

Lake Nakuru National Park

One of the highlights whilst staying at Loldia House is a day trip to the picturesque Lake Nakuru National Park, which is world famous for it’s millions of colourful flamingoes and abundant rhino.

Guests depart from Loldia after an early breakfast and enjoy a drive through the Rift Valley on their way to Lake Nakuru, which is approximately 2 hours from Loldia House. Park fees, are to be paid direct at the park entrance gate.

Eburu Forest Reserve

The Eburu Forest comprises 8,715.3 hectares of prime indigenous forest area contained within the steep hills, deep valleys and rolling foothills of Mount Eburu.

Overlooking Lake Naivasha to the south east, Lake Elementaita to the North and Lake Nakuru to the North West, the Mau Eburu forest is nestled within the folds of a geologically active volcanic mountain, whose highest peak, Ol Doinyo Eburu, stands 2,820 metres above sea level.

The forest is fully demarcated with formal title held by the Kenya Forest Service. It is one of the 22 gazetted forest blocks that comprise the Mau Forests Complex water tower.

Guests staying at Loldia House can explore the forest on a game drive and guided walk through the forest. This can be booked with the Loldia Manager at the house. There is a small entrance fee that guests wanting to visit the forest must pay.

Boat Trips on Lake Naivasha

We offer boat safaris on Lake Naivasha to our guests. Lake Naivasha, at over 6,000 feet, is the highest lake in the Rift Valley and one of its most beautiful. Fringed by papyrus and with the extinct Mount Longonot as a backdrop, this is a wonderful place to watch and photograph birds. Over 400 species of birds have been seen in the Rift Valley, and Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru and Hells Gate all offer great bird viewing opportunities.

At Loldia House we have a resident ornithologist and you can enjoy this wonderful bird life by boat around Lake Naivasha, and on game drives.

From boat trips on the lake you can get close to Cormorants drying their wings, Pink Backed Pelicans, Herons, colourful Kingfishers and Fish Eagles.

Other birds seen around the lake include the Goliath Heron, Jacana, Great White Egret, White Fronted Bee-eater and the Saddle- billed Stork. Lake Nakuru is surrounded by Acacia woodland and open grassland, and millions of Greater and Lesser Flamingoes fringe the lake in shades of pink.
